Lucas Distributor Internals.

Picture
As you can see the internals pictured above are in good shape. The pivots for the weights are not worn and have a touch of graphite grease on them. The slotted cam and its pins are also in good shape and again are lightly lubricated. Most importantly the springs are unworn  keeping the cam timing correct as the revs rise. If the cam weights flop about the timing will be 'all over the place'
with the result kicking back when trying to start the engine and rough running. This can happen as the  distributor being mounted horizontally if one of the springs comes off the bob weight well go full advance and then full retard every revolution !
